The BestPractices™ Way
The only way to excel in today's healthcare environment is to continuously innovate and improve. However, this must be accomplished within an integrated framework that is comprised of the Science, Art, and Business of patient care. To this end, BestPractices™ has proven its ability to lead the Emergency Medicine field and systemically drive improvement efforts. Following are a sampling of our values and indicative results along the Science, Art, and Business dimensions.

The SCIENCE of Clinical Excellence
Delivering superior ED outsourcing services starts first and foremost with clinical care. The BestPractices™ Physician Leadership Team is the most talented and experienced in the nation, with expertise and programs in pediatric emergency medicine, emergency medical services, aeromedical services, graduate medical education, disaster medicine and all aspects of emergency department flow.

BestPractices™ physicians are chosen after an extensive screening and interview process and are culled from the finest candidates available in the entire country. Our reputation for clinical excellence is widely known and has been demonstrated not only at the bedside, but also in our many contributions to the emergency medicine literature, including journal articles, textbooks, national courses, and invited lectures. When a physician joins BestPractices™, they truly know that they are joining an elite and talented group of emergency physicians that are second to none in the country.

The ART of Customer Service
BestPractices™ is the nation's leader in the development and implementation of programs to improve customer service in emergency medicine. Emergency Department Survival Skills© is the nation's first course devoted specially to customer service training in emergency medicine, and has been taught to over 400 institutions across the country. We have been selected twice as the Keynote Speaker at the Press Ganey Client Conference, and a BestPractices™ emergency department won a prestigious Press Ganey Compass Award in 2003. The Survival Skills© curriculum was published in 2004 as a textbook by the American College of Healthcare Executives' publishing company, Health Administration Press in 2004, with a forward written by Tom Peters, one of the world's foremost experts on leadership.

The BUSINESS of Execution
Many people have good ideas - only true leaders can execute those ideas in pragmatic and practical ways. As important as clinical excellence and customer service are, they must be provided in a milieu that includes the best in leadership and management in emergency medicine. Dr. Thom Mayer, our President and CEO, is the Editor of Emergency Department Management, the nation's premier textbook on applying business principles to the emergency department. Additionally, BestPractices™ emergency departments and physicians were among the co-founders of the Benchmarking Alliance in Emergency Medicine, the nation's largest and most prestigious group dedicated to benchmarking in emergency medicine.

We also believe that the central way the community assesses emergency services is through their perception of the speed within which they are served by a clinician. Our expertise in ED patient flow is unparalleled and our physicians are among the most widely sought experts in this area. Team Triage™ (a unique and revolutionary approach to improving ED throughput), our reimbursement and bonus program, and our processes for improving patient flow all give competitive advantage to our partner hospitals.
